These photographs have been taken as part of the annual Leys Young Photographer of the Year Competition organised by Thrive Leys. Young people in Blackbird Leys, and students at The Oxford Academy, were challenged to take photographs on the theme of ‘contrast’ and did an amazing job of finding contrast in our city. Thrive develop young people to bring hope and lasting change to disadvantaged communities. Its youth mentoring and leadership development programmes seek to address one of Oxford’s biggest contrasts: that while one quarter of Oxford’s young people are privately educated, another quarter are growing up in child poverty. St Michael’s and All Saints’ Charities have supported Thrive for a number of years as they equip young people to fulfil their potential and create lasting change.
